The Appen Data Annotation Platform (ADAP) is a website that lets you annotate images, evaluate social media videos, record audio clips, answer task-specific questions, and more.
At the beginning of some projects, you might receive an ADAP project link via email.
Alternatively, the link may be available on the project page in CrowdGen. Here’s how you can access the link on the project page.
1. Go to your project in CrowdGen
Find your project under the “My Projects” tab. Click on “Work this” to get started.
2. Sign in to ADAP
You’ll be redirected to ADAP.
Log in using the same email and password you used for your Appen account.
3. Start working
Once you’re logged in to ADAP, you’ll see your tasks immediately. Be sure to read the instructions thoroughly before starting.
Most tasks come with detailed instructions, which may include additional reading materials. Make sure to read through all the instructions thoroughly before starting the task.
Upload your data files in the correct format (e.g., MP4 for video, JPEG for images).
Carefully review each section and ensure you answer all questions, including those from side tasks.
Always check your answers before submitting them.
Download these guides for detailed instructions on submitting high-quality, task-specific data.
Get proficient at annotating audio clips.
Explore the best practices for audio transcription.
Some tasks in certain projects have time limits. Be sure to monitor the timer and keep track of your remaining time. You can see how much time is left to complete the ADAP job at the top right corner of your screen.

Since slots are limited, we will get in touch via email soon to provide detailed instructions for you to start working, including the link to the task if needed.
If you are selected, this will take between 1 to 3 weeks after you have been activated for the project. Remember to always check your spam inbox in case the emails were routed there.
No, we need you to use an account with the same email as the one you use in Appen. This is the only way for us to pay you. You can contact the team in charge of the platform (contributors@appen.com) in order to get your account there reactivated.
It is normal to receive this screen saying “Not Found” once you send your submissions.

Kindly follow these steps to know if your submission was received:
If you submitted data, rest assured that we have already received it. However, you are welcome to contact us if you feel the need and we will check if your submissions were successfully received.
Kindly refer to the question “How do I know if you received my submission(s)?” below on how to check if you submitted correctly
You can see the number of tasks increasing on the top left of the ADAP website.

If you submitted data, once again, we can guarantee that we have collected your data. Bear in mind that there are times that you will see on your screen the message “NOT FOUND” after submission. This is normal (it usually means the project has no more work to give out; usually happens on a one-time participation project).
You are also welcome to contact us if you feel the need and we will be happy to check if your submissions were successfully received. Kindly include the project name in the title or body of the support ticket.
Here are the reasons why participants are flagged:
▷ the participant is not meeting the quality requirements of the project (the data submitted is not what we are looking for)
▷ the participant is not in the project in Appen
▷ the participant is not eligible to do this project (not located in a country stated or due to inaccurate information given in the application

This error message can happen for different reasons when you try submitting your video, audio or picture. We recommend you ensure that your file meets the project requirements (size, duration, format). You can check those requirements in the guidelines or on the link where you try to upload your data.
Please follow these troubleshooting steps first:
▷ Make sure the file meets the size and format requirements
▷ Do not use mobile or tablet devices (use Desktop PC, Laptop or Netbook)
▷ Make sure your browser is updated to the latest version
▷ Clear browser cache & cookies
▷ Try with an incognito/private window if you are using normal browser, and normal browser if you’re using incognito mode.
▷ Try a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, etc)
▷ Last suggestion is to try on another laptop or desktop
If the issue persists, send us a ticket and provide us:
▷ A screenshot of the issue
▷ Type of browser and its version (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
▷ Type of operating system (Windows or Mac OS)
▷ The file format and size you are trying to upload
▷ A model of the device used
In this case, we have a few troubleshooting steps for you (using Brazil as an example):
▷ After clicking the country code selection, press the letter ‘b‘ on your keyboard until Brazil appears or is selected.
▷ Same as above, press the number ‘5, and 5’ to select or make Brazil appear (Brazil code is +55).
▷ We want to recommend this step as a later one since it involves installing a new browser (we recommend Chrome or Safari).
▷ If you are already using Chrome/Safari, please disable all browser extensions.
▷ Use incognito mode in Chrome/Safari or your current browser.
Our waiting list is currently closed, but Geolancer is going public at the very end of August and it will be rolled out gradually across Southeast Asia.
