Project Salamander is a research initiative aimed at enhancing road safety through improved in-car technology. The project focuses on studying driver and passenger positioning that could be potentially dangerous in the event of an accident or sudden vehicle maneuvers.
Using specially equipped vehicles fitted with cameras, researchers collect data on various body positions and seating arrangements.
Participants in the study perform a range of actions that simulate risky behaviors, such as sitting too close to an airbag or placing feet on the dashboard. The equipment in the test vehicles captures detailed data on participants’ movements and body positions.
This information will be used to develop more effective safety systems and improve vehicle design to mitigate risks associated with improper seating positions.
