Paid car safety study, no driving required

Help keep mums-to-be safe on the road in Sydney

Most car safety systems aren’t designed for pregnant women. We’re studying how expectant mothers move and buckle up in cars so future technology can better protect you and your baby.

Join our car safety research in Kingsford, Sydney, and earn up to $270 for helping other mums-to-be.

Earn at your own pace

Whether you’re a student, parent, professional, or retiree, you’re invited to join our research study! Just visit our Chatswood office and sit in a stationary car.

No, if you’ve already taken part in a similar in-car project with Appen, you won’t be eligible for this one.

You’ll need to drive to the meeting point, but your car will stay parked for the entire session after that.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please inform the project team as soon as possible so your slot can be given to another participant.

Appen also reserves the right to cancel scheduled sessions due to:

  • Technical failures
  • Inclement weather
  • If a participant (12 years or older) is unable to follow instructions

In the event of a cancellation, Appen will make every effort to provide ample notice.

That’s okay — just let us know when you apply, and we’ll see what we can do. While bringing your own car helps us collect more natural movement data, we understand it’s not possible for everyone.

Yes — small cameras and sensors will be temporarily placed inside your car using suction mounts.

These are used to record how you move during the session, and everything is supervised, non-invasive, and removed after the study.

No permanent changes are made to your vehicle.

No problem at all. Your comfort and safety come first. Just let your supervisor know at any time — you’re free to pause or take a break whenever you need to.
