About Project Sassafras (P26P6V)

What you'll do
  • Sit in a parked car fitted with cameras.
  • Perform simple actions like drinking, using your phone, or pretending to sleep.
  • Some sessions may involve wearing props like sunglasses and prosthetics like a pregnancy belly to help us record seatbelt use across a wider range of body types.
Compensation
  • Get paid with a $350 eGift card after completing the project.
  • The session takes about 120 minutes; please allow up to 150 minutes in total.
What you'll need
  • To attend in person at our location in Kingsford, NSW.
  • Two occupants per recording: either two adults, or one adult and one minor (aged 8 to under 18).
  • At least one occupant must bring a car, and every car used must belong to a participant.
  • A car manufactured in 2010 or later (older vehicles are not eligible).
  • Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian.

Your vehicle could be the perfect fit

As long as it was manufactured in 2010 or later, your everyday car could be part of the study. If your vehicle is used, we install low-impact recording equipment that will not damage it.

How it works

  3. 3 Come to our Kingsford, NSW location with your occupant and, if needed, your car.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Yes. This project is run by Appen, a publicly traded data company listed on the Australian Securities Exchange under the code APX, through its CrowdGen contributor platform. Appen is a global leader in machine learning and artificial intelligence with more than 25 years in business.

No. If you've taken part in any previous Sassafras in-car project, or any other Appen in-car data collection, you're not eligible for this study. Please do not fill out the form.

Not everyone needs to bring a car, but at least one occupant per recording must, and every car used must belong to a participant. The vehicle stays stationary throughout — there's no driving involved. Cars must be manufactured in 2010 or later.

If your car is used, we install low-impact video recording equipment. The setup will not damage your vehicle.

Yes — we need a small number of minors aged 8 to under 18. Minors must be 130–150cm tall, or under 50kg, or both. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by their legal guardian, and the registration form must be completed by an adult.
